Rocket Launcher Tube
Naylor Specialist Plastics was recently approached by a leading defence contractor looking for help with the design & manufacture of a training aid for American and NATO armed forces.
They had a brief to produce a dummy rocket launcher, which would be an exact replica of the real thing, but would be much more robust when used in harsh training environments.
Replicating harnesses, switches and markings proved to be relatively easy, but the stumbling block proved to be the tube itself!
The finished tube needed to be a self-coloured military green, resistant to very low temperatures and have excellent resistance to impact. It also had to have a flare at one end and allow printing on the surface. As added complications, the tube was also a non-standard size and needed to be flame retardant!
Naylor Specialist Plastics were called on to advise on a suitable material and design a workable flare. Working to a very tight deadline, we produced samples of a finished tube complete with a machined flare, both made from a special grade of flame retardant ABS. The completed launchers were then subjected to rigorous laboratory tests and field trials, which they passed with flying colours.
As a result, the training aids have been sold to a number of countries and Naylor Specialist Plastics has established itself as a key component supplier to this major defence business.

Hula Hoop Tube
Naylor Specialist Plastics was recently approached by a customer with an unusual problem. The lady in question was teaching fitness in rural communities using hula hoops, the problem was finding a supplier of the right kind of tubing to manufacturer the hoops. The problem was solved by supplying a modified MDPE tube in coils. Although the overall demand was relatively small, Naylor Specialist Plastics was pleased to help and the end result is a happy customer with fitter clients!
